As a family-owned company that began with a single-minded goal "...to create a place for people and families to play, connect, recreate and create lifelong memories..." Skatetown is overjoyed to be celebrating 25 years of doing just that. Tens of thousands of families and friends have passed through our doors over the years; thousands of our amazing students have gone on to compete and even become world champions in their fields; people have achieved personal fitness goals and many of Skatetown's team members have gone on to be highly successful as a result of our carefully crafted programs for employees.
Skatetown first opened its doors during the winter holidays of 1997, later launching a festive outdoor rink in 2012. It has since become Sacramento Valley's premier indoor ice arena and is now considered an industry leader, providing world-class service, state-of-the art programs and equipment and is locally known for its incredible employee training program.
Home to numerous non-profit clubs, including Capital Thunder Youth Hockey, Firefighters Hockey Club, Hockey Belongs 2 Everyone, Capital City Figure Skating and the Wine Country Curling Club, Skatetown prides itself in being a conscientious member of the community.
In 2009, Skatetown won the Ice Skating Institute World Recreational Championships and brought home more than 400 medals.
National/regional events hosted at the arena include Gold Rush Senior Hockey Tournament (ages 50 and older), charity hockey games benefitting the Firefighters Burn Institute, U.S. Figure Skating Sectionals and Centrals, and youth hockey tournaments. Annual events include Ice Skating Institute competitions, U.S. Figure Skating showcase competition and biannual curling bonspiels.
Other past events at Skatetown have included customer appreciation events, an on-ice wedding and several on-ice marriage proposals. Jack, the hockey-playing chimpanzee was also spotted at the rink filming a TV commercial and training for his role in the movie MVP: Most Valuable Primate!
Skatetown's overall mission has never waivered: "To be world famous by making a difference in the lives we touch." From day one, this mantra applied to both Guests and Teammates. For Guests, it's always about reconnecting with the innocent, fun-loving child within, creating lifelong memories and teaching life lessons through sports. For teammates, it's our steadfast goal to provide a work environment that's fun, rewarding and offers ongoing learning opportunities. Teammates are afforded programs that teach them skills that improve their quality of life and instill values when it comes to providing caring service to others.
We love our guests and we're so proud of our teammates.
A big thank you to everyone for the role you've played in our success. Here's to the next 25 years!
